Courage is a Big Word

February 13, 2015

Five years ago,
I got into my minivan and
drove to a photography workshop in NJ.
It was the first time I had ever
stayed in a hotel room

I remember feeling so
small in such a big space
(and I don’t mean the size of
the hotel room)

On the last day of the workshop
I woke up to the voice of my heart
“I’m all done playing small.”

It’s easy to play small.
Playing small is comfortable.
Playing small requires no courage.

Courage is a BIG word.

Encouraged by my photographer friends,
I applied to speak at Inspire last year.
They didn’t pick me.

Courage is a BIG word.

So I applied again.
They picked me.

Courage is a BIG word.

I got on a plane,
Flew to Maine,
Checked into the hotel

Inspire Photo Retreats 2015

I didn’t feel small.

I mentored beautiful souls.
I listened to incredible people.
I cried grateful tears.
I stood in front of a room full of
people and poured out
my soul.

I lived.
I was BIG.

Courage is a LIVING word.

Thank you, Inspire Community,
for listening to me
and giving me a place to be BIG.
